What Do You Do For A Living?

As a travel vlogger, I make my money in a variety of different ways. I get paid monthly from YouTube for Ad Revenue, I take on freelance film and photography projects and occasionally work with brands. I also keep my living costs as low as possible to make this a feasible career path at the start! TLDR: I do YouTube

What Gear/Software Do You Use?

I vlog with a Canon G7X and do my cinematic B-role with my Panasonic GH4 equipped with a 14-140mm Panasonic lens. I also LOVE to use my GoPro Hero 4 (Silver and Black) and Phantom 3 Standard (Advanced one crashed - RIP Flying Turkey). I edit my videos and photos on a 2014 spec'd out 15" Macbook Pro on FCPX and it runs great.

How Did You Start Vlogging?

The answer is simple. I just started! No background in film or design, I just picked up a GoPro, downloaded Final Cut and started making really bad videos. Eventually they got bearable and a year plus later, they became decent :) I started this purely as a hobby. My motives were simply to share my experiences of traveling Asia with friends and family. By some crazy accident, people started clicking subscribe and that is when I realized that my audience was bigger than my mom and dad. If you are wanting to start a channel, just do it. Start with the basics and the rest will follow! You will not create your best piece of work at the start. It takes constant mess ups and improvements to create a video even worth watching.

The honest ugly truth!

Did You Go To School?

Yes, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a specialization in.... accounting... I did my last semester of school on exchange in Bangkok and that is what got me to start vlogging! After my exchange, I traveled a few more months with my beautiful girlfriend, Laura Reid, and then returned to a full-time job with one of the biggest accounting firms in the world. I was going through as a Chartered Professional Accountant and I worked there for 3 months until I realized I was miserable at a desk. This is what gave me the courage to quit my job, cancel my rent and pack up my bags for a second tour of Asia.

Which Countries Have You Vlogged?

Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Laos, Romania, Bulgaria, UK, USA and beautiful Canada which is where I live!

What Is Your Favourite Thing About Vlogging?

Since I was a kid, my biggest goal in life was to achieve financial freedom and to be able to work remotely. I'm working on the first part but vlogging has so far allowed me to work from just about anywhere (with wifi). I also LOVE having a spontaneous lifestyle and a ton of uncertainty. Monotony drives me crazy. I also love getting free stuff.

Is Your Girlfriend and Angel?

Yes, I think she is. Laura (@laurareidd) is also a YouTuber and her YouTube lifestyle gives her the flexibility to work from a laptop and join me on most of my travels <3 We just recently celebrated 5 years! #GOALS
